Let’s talk about design features, look inside, show how they are arranged.
Description and design
RS-II is a 2.5-way speakers with a bass-reflex port and three active drivers: one high-frequency and two medium-low-frequency.
Both mid-bass drivers sound in the low frequency range, one of which operates in the midrange.
This is quite known configuration has several advantages: a large area of radiation at low frequencies and wide directional diagram of the high and medium frequencies, and at the same time allows to make small dimensions of the case.
The slot-type resonator port is located behind the housing and is directed downwards. A large area of its intersection provides high efficiency low frequency radiation, fast attack and depth of the bass range.
Cabinet
It is made by layer-by-layer gluing of the milled details from MDF. Inside the case has a complex structure, walls of variable thickness from 20 to 40 mm. All internal parts: struts, stiffeners and partitions of the reflex port are integrated into the structure of the cabinet, which provides high rigidity and monolithicity of the entire structure.
The inner volume is evenly filled with synthetic sound-absorbing material.
High rigidity, complex internal structure and uniform filling of internal volume ensure the absence of harmful resonances.
Drivers
The RS-II is equipped with dynamic heads manufactured by Seas, which have excellent characteristics and are selected separately for each pair of loudspeakers.
Conical diffusers of low-medium-frequency drivers with a diameter of 6.5 inches are made of paper pulp and reinforced with reed fibers.
The high-frequency 1-inch driver has a light silk diaphragm.
Crossovers
At the heart of speakers are specially designed filters that provide uniform amplitude-frequency response, neutral tone balance and natural sound.
Thanks to the impedance correction circuit RS-II has a uniform resistance, which creates favorable conditions for working with amplifiers of any type: both transistor and tube, even with a low damping factor.
In the crossover applicable quality audio components with high precision denominations, in particular capacitors and resistors manufactured by Monacor. Large inductors have optimal geometry and mostly air cores. Made of thick wire for minimal signal loss. Coils of the Ukrainian production Vajd Audio are made to order.
To reduce the impact of vibrations from low-frequency speakers, crossovers are installed in a separate isolated compartment.
Crossover configuration: 2.5-way circuit. 1st order low pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 250 Hz, 2nd order midrange and high frequency drivers with a frequency distribution of 2.7 kHz
Crossovers provide uniformity of amplitude-frequency characteristic within +/- 2 dB in the frequency range 45 Hz – 22 kHz and impedance 4 Ohms with a maximum deviation of +/- 0.25 Ohms in the frequency range 120 Hz – 22 kHz.
Cables
Internal wiring from the input terminals to the filters and from the filters to the speakers is performed by cables made of litz wire The design of the cables is a copper stranded wire, the individual cores of which are covered with lacquer insulation, and the bundles of cores are assembled into a silk braid.
Such cables have a clear, detailed and expressive sound.
Stands
The load-bearing supports from the acoustic systems are made of artificial stone and fixed in the lower part of the housings through damping washers. Spikes have height adjustment and fixation. The design of the stands allows you to accurately and reliably install speakers on the floor and adjust their inclination.
Sounding
The results of auditory assessment and wishes of the audience were two versions of crossovers with different settings. Versions of crossovers are named “light” and “dark” according to their characteristic sound.
The “light” version has a lighter character, adds brightness and drive. While the “dark” version has a calmer, dark, vintage sound, less emphasizing the bright and sharp tones.
Schematic diagrams of both versions of crossovers are the same, differ in element denominations in medium-high-pass filters and impedance correction circuits. Formally, the amplitude-frequency characteristic of the speaker with both types of filters fits into the corridor +/- 2 dB. The technical characteristics are the same. In terms of tonal balance, different versions of crossovers differ in the ratio of the lower and upper middle, the level of high frequencies. The difference is not great and averages 0.5-1.5 dB, but has a significant effect on the subjective perception.
Each version has found its supporters. We leave both to choose from.
Finishing
Natural veneer is glued with a solid sheet without joints, so its texture continuously envelops the entire perimeter of the cabinet. The front and back are painted.
The texture of the veneer and the color of the paint can be selected individually or according to the design of your interior.
